School Projects
S.A.R.A. has rocketry courses through
out the year in Gauteng.
If you are in Grade 8-11 and is interested in Rocket Science. please
send us an
email with your details. We prefer groups of 8 - 16 learners.
N- Prize
The N-Prize is a challenge to launch
an impossibly small satellite into orbit on a ludicrously small
budget, for a pitifully small cash prize.
The N-Prize is a cash prize of £9,
999.99 (nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine pounds and
ninety-nine pence, sterling) or R1.500.000.00
±, which will be awarded to the
first person or group to put into orbit, around the Earth, a
satellite with a mass of between 9.99 and 19.99 grams, and to prove
that it has completed at least 9 orbits. The cost of the launch (but
not ground facilities) must fall within a budget of £999.99.
Imaginative use of string and chewing gum is encouraged. Entrants
are responsible for everything, organizers are responsible for
nothing.
S.A.R.A needs help to fund this great
venture. Any help, financial side, materials, services and skills.

VULCAN Project Vulcan1
A few design images of the Vulcan
rocket. This design is the same as SARAN-1 but with a large N2O
tank.

We tested the motor
again with a deflector on the injector. Plus the injector was opened
up by 0.2 mm per injector orifice. This gave a short run, more
thrust and the fuel had burn away correctly.

We tested the new fuel, fuel geometry and injector. The motor
produced a max of 220 kg thrust.

We launched
the latest project called VULCAN. We hope to enter the same rocket
to fly to 10km in October.

This launch evaluated the onboard
recovery and tracking systems. As well as the injector system of the
hybrid motor. The rocket was
recovered 2.9 km downrange. We managed to recover some very useful
data from the flight.
